Atletico Madrid: Simeone Explains His Celebration Gesture After UCL Triumph Over Juventus

Atletico Madrid’s opening goal in their 2-0 win over Juventus in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday night saw their manager Diego Simeone throwing his hands around his crotch area in celebration.

Diego Simone's bizarre touchline behaviour after his team netted the first goal drew attention on a night of VAR farce and drama in Spain.

Atletico Madrid's manager explains his celebration gesture was a sign of showing his feelings and wasn't aimed towards their opponent.

He said:
I did it as a player in Lazio-Bologna and I did it again to show our fans that we have cojones.

It wasn’t aimed at the other team, I was turning towards our own supporters

Diego Simeone, however, apologized to anyone who was offended by his weird crotch-grabbing celebration.

It’s not a nice gesture, I admit, but I felt the need to do it. It was such a tough game, we fought so hard and Diego Costa worked really hard when he wasn’t 100 per cent fit.

I had to show what I was feeling. I can only apologise if anyone was offended, but I did it from the heart.

Having won 2:0 at home, Atletico Madrid will be going into the second leg with an advantage over the Old Ladies of Turin. The second leg is scheduled to take place on March 12 in Turin.

Atletico will be without the likes of Diego Costa and Thomas Partey. While Juventus will have to face the Spanish club without Alex Sandro, after all three picked up bans for bookings in the first leg.
